Sale of collector and commemorative coins issued this year starts 20 June 2016

This year the Republic of Slovenia is issuing collector coins marking the 150th anniversary of the Red Cross in Slovenia, and commemorative coins marking the 25th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Slovenia. The Bank of Slovenia is issuing a set of 2016 euro coins. From 20 June 2016 these numismatic products will be available for sale at the individual branches of Deželna banka Slovenija, an authorised sales agent of the Bank of Slovenia.
The issue marking 150 years of the Red Cross in Slovenia will include a gold collector coin with the face value of EUR 100 (sales price EUR 320), a silver collector coin with the face value of EUR 30 (sales price of EUR 40) and a €3 bimetallic collector coin with the face value of EUR 3 (sales price EUR 3). The latter will also be available in the proof version (sales price EUR 12). The 25th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Slovenia will be honoured with the issue of a €2 commemorative coin with the face value and sales price of EUR 2 EUR (proof version with the face value of EUR 2 and sales price EUR 11). Collector coins have legal tender status in the issuing state, their value the same as their face value, while they only have numismatic value everywhere else.
The Bank of Slovenia will also issue a 2016 coin set (the BU version priced at EUR 25 and proof version at EUR 50) consisting of all the euro coin denominations with a Slovenian national obverse, along with a €3 bimetallic collector coin honouring 150 years of the Red Cross in Slovenia, and a €2 commemorative coin marking the 25th anniversary of the country's independence.
The design of collector coins marking 150 years of the Red Cross in Slovenia is the work of Gregor Ivanušič of Vinica near Črnomelj, Slovenia. The main motif is the symbol of the organisation, a net, which signifies the actions and support of the organisation, which is largely supported by the work of volunteers. The designer of the €2 coin honouring the 25th anniversary of Slovenia’s independence is Jernej Kejžar of Kranj, Slovenia. The coin bears a phrase from the national anthem, "dočákat´ dan" (i.e. live to see the day), signifying the onset of a momentous event in the history of the Slovenian nation.
All issued numismatic coins will be made commercially available. There will be no additional minting of numismatic coins issued in 2016.
As of 20 June 2016, the 2016 numismatic coins will also be available for sale at 12 branches of DBS: the branches in Ljubljana (at 9 Kolodvorska ulica street), Nova Gorica, Kranj, Kočevje, Maribor, Ptuj, Murska Sobota, Slovenj Gradec, Celje, Velenje, Koper and Novo mesto.
